Effects of Toasted Sorrel (Hibiscus Sabdariffa) Seed Meal on Carcass and Internal Organs Evaluation of Broiler Finisher Chickens

Abstract


One hundred and fifty (150) broiler finisher chickens were used to evaluate the effects of graded levels of toasted Sorrel (Hibiscus sabdariffa) seed meal (TSSM) on carcass yield and internal organ characteristics.  The chickens were randomly assigned to five dietary treatments consisting of three replicates of ten birds per replicate in a completely randomized design.  The dietary treatments were the inclusion levels of toasted sorrel seed meal at 0%, 15%, 20% 25% and 30%.  At the end of the experiment six (6) birds were randomly selected from each treatment and slaughtered to determine the effect of graded levels of toasted Sorrel seed meal on carcass yield and internal organs characteristics.  Carcass yield and internal organs characteristics were also not significantly (P>0.05) influenced by the dietary treatments, except for average live weight, slaughtered weight and dressing percentage.  Therefore 20% dietary level inclusion of toasted sorrel seed meal is recommended in broiler finisher diet.
