Abstract

The passive islanding detection technique is a method used to identify islanding occurrences by monitoring parameters like voltage magnitude and frequency at the point of common coupling (PCC). When these values significantly exceed preset limits, the inverter is shut down. However, this technique has a significant drawback in the form of a large non-detection zone. To address this limitation, this research paper introduces a wavelet-based passive islanding detection technique. The approach involves measuring the Root-mean-square voltage at the PCC and decomposing it into twelve details. The standard deviation of each detail is then calculated for both islanding and non-islanding scenarios. The results indicate that even in scenarios with near-zero load mismatch, the technique achieves a 98.96% difference between islanding and non-islanding cases. This high discriminatory capability demonstrates the system's effectiveness in identifying islanding events, even in worst-case scenarios.
