Relationship between Employee Commitment and Employee Performance: The Mediating Role of Performance Appraisal in Bauchi State Specialist Hospital
Abstract
The objective of the study was to examine the mediating effect of employee performance appraisal on the relationship between employee commitment and employee performance in Bauchi State Specialist Hospital. A survey research methodology was employed in this study, utilizing respondents from Bauchi state Specialist Hospital as the population. The primary means of data collection was through the distribution of questionnaires, which were designed using a Likert scale. The study consisted of 318 respondents, and data analysis was conducted using Partial Least Squares (PLS) analysis with SPSS and SMART PLS software. PLS-SEM analysis comprised two models: an outer model and an inner model. The study found that the independent variable (employee performance) significantly affects employee performance in Bauchi State Specialist Hospital. In addition, the findings also indicate that employee performance appraisal plays a mediating role in the relationship between employee commitment and employee performance. The present study provides valuable insights to the academic community by expanding knowledge in the human resource field, specifically with regards to the influence of employee commitment on employee performance. Therefore, this study recommends that employee of Bauchi State Specialist Hospital should be given adequate resources, facilities, training autonomy, and responsibility to strengthen the commitment of employees with their organization, performance.
