GROWTH RESPONSE AND CARCASS CHARACTERISTICS OF RABBITS FED SOYABEAN CURD RESIDUE AS REPLACEMENT FOR FULL FAT SOYABEANS

Maidala A., Doma U. D.

Abstract

An eight week feeding trial was conducted to assess the replacement value of soyabean curd residue meal (SCRM) for full fat soyabean on the growth performance and carcass characteristics of growing rabbits. Thirty rabbits of mixed breeds and sexes were randomly allotted to six treatments in which SCRM replaced full fat soyabean at 0% (control), 20%, 40%, 60%, 80% and 100% levels. There were five rabbits per treatment, replicated five times in a completely randomized design (CRD). Results showed that there were a significant difference in daily feed intake, daily weight gain and feed conversion ratio (P<0.05). There were significant difference in live weight, dressing percentage, weight of hind limbs and liver (P<0.05)  SCRM can replace full fat soyabean in the diet of growing rabbits up to 60% level without deleterious effects on growth performance and carcass yield.
