Modelling the Determinants of Information and Communication Technologies’ Integration in Tertiary Institutions offering Vocational and Technology Education Programmes in Nigeria
Abstract
This study investigates the integration of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) into Technical and Vocational Education (TVE) in Nigeria, focusing on identifying significant determinants, stakeholder perceptions, and developing a conceptual model for effective ICT integration. Using a mixed-methods approach, data were collected from policymakers, administrators, and lecturers through surveys and interviews to understand the key factors influencing ICT adoption in TVE. The findings highlight that infrastructure development and teacher training are critical determinants for successful ICT integration, with policy support and funding also playing significant roles. Stakeholders emphasized the importance of developing comprehensive policies that support ICT infrastructure, curriculum reform, and continuous teacher training to ensure sustainable integration. A phased approach to ICT integration, beginning with foundational elements like infrastructure and followed by curriculum adaptation and teacher training, was recommended. The study contributes to the body of knowledge by providing a localized perspective on ICT integration in TVE and offers actionable insights for policymakers and educators aiming to enhance TVE programs through technology. The results underscore the need for collaboration between government, private sector, and educational institutions to ensure effective and scalable ICT integration in Nigerian TVE.
