Internet Use and Its Addiction among Colleges of Education Students in Delta State

Abstract


This study examined internet use and addiction among student of college of education, Agbor. The research design adopted for this study is the descriptive survey design. The population of the study is three thousand two hundred and twenty-two (3,222) students. The sample size for the study is one hundred and sixty–one (161) respondents. Questionnaire was used to collect data from the respondents and the data were analyzed using simple percentage and frequency counts. The findings of the study revealed that the internet resources used by students are e-journals, Facebook, e-mail and search engines. The level of use of the internet by the students is one hour per day, the purpose of use of the internet by the student are research, communication, learning and information dissemination, the effect of internet addiction are lack of time to read and conduct research as well as depression. Recommendations made among others were students should be adequately sensitize about the consequences of internet addiction.
