Document E-Tracker: A Panacea for Efficient Internal Document Management System in Kaduna Polytechnic

Abstract


Manual documents have become of huge volume due to increase in the use of computer for working procedure on daily basis.  Many organizations today manually track information or they do not put in place any tracking process, as a result, searching for document consumes time hence waste of productivity. Handling of high-priority document in an organization could be tragic if there is marginal carelessness and incompetency. Kaduna Polytechnic is a relatively large institution with a centrally controlled administration but operational activities distributed among five distinctive academic colleges that are geographically spread within the metropolis In order to improve the movement of document among within this widely distributed administrative setup of Kaduna Polytechnic it is imperative to have and efficient document monitoring system. A solution system known as E-Track was developed for the tracking of documents’ movement among academic Colleges in Kaduna Polytechnic. Open source tools such as PHP and MySQL were used to develop E-Track within Windows environment.
