Artificial Intelligence Library Services Delivery for Students: A Contemporary Assessment
Abstract
This study explores the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools in enhancing library service delivery for students in academic institutions. It aims to assess the benefits of AI in library operations, increase awareness among librarians about AI applications, and outline effective integration strategies. The research examines key challenges faced by Nigerian libraries, including limited technical expertise, inadequate funding for technological infrastructure, and insufficient government support for digital transformation. Through a comprehensive literature review, the study highlights how AI-driven systems can optimize user experiences, with a focus on tools such as chatbots, recommendation engines, and natural language processing (NLP) technologies. These innovations empower students and library staff by facilitating research, improving information retrieval, and supporting personalized learning. Additionally, the paper addresses obstacles to AI adoption, including resistance to change, data privacy concerns, and the ongoing need for staff training. The findings emphasize AI’s transformative potential in modern libraries, demonstrating its ability to streamline workflows, enhance accessibility, and offer tailored support to students. Contrary to concerns about job displacement, the study advocates for AI as a complementary tool that enhances librarians' efficiency rather than replacing their roles.
