Assessment of the Level of Compliance to Health and Safety Standards on Construction Sites in the FCT
Abstract
Health and safety compliance is a critical aspect of the construction industry, directly impacting worker well-being, project efficiency, and regulatory adherence. This study assesses the level of compliance with health and safety standards in the construction sector of the Federal Capital Territory, examining key factors such as adherence to occupational safety regulations, hazard management practices, use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and safety training programs. Data was collected through a structured questionnaire administered site manager, construction supervisors and construction workers. Findings reveal varying levels of compliance, influenced by factors such as company policies, enforcement mechanisms, worker awareness, and resource availability. The study identifies common safety violations and challenges in implementing safety measures, providing insights into areas requiring improvement. Recommendations are proposed to enhance compliance through stricter enforcement, regular training, improved safety culture, and policy enhancements. Strengthening health and safety compliance in construction is essential to reducing accidents, ensuring legal adherence, and fostering a safer working environment.
