INFLUENCE OF GRADED LEVELS OF RICE OFFAL ON GROWTH PERFORMANCE AND CARCASS CHARACTERISTICS OF BROILER CHICKENS IN THE FINISHER PHASE.

Abstract


An experiment was conducted to investigate the influence of graded levels of rice offal on growth performance and carcass characteristics of broiler chickens in the finisher phase. One hundred and fifty (150) five weeks old broiler chickens were randomly allotted to five dietary treatments at 0, 5, 10, 15 and 20% rice offal inclusion levels respectively. Each diet was replicated three times (3) with ten (10) birds per replicate in a completely randomized design arrangement. The trial lasted for three (3) weeks. There was significant difference (P < 0.05) in weight gain. Significant differences (P < 0.05) were also observed in feed intake, feed conversion ratio and feed cost. There were significant differences (P < 0.05) across the carcass parameters. From these findings, rice offal can be included at 15% in broiler chicken diet without detrimental effects on growth performance and carcass parameters.
