Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and Entrepreneurship Training in Yobe State Technical Colleges for Sustainable Development

Abstract

Technical education, as enriched in the Nigerian National Policy on Education, is concerned with qualitative technological human resources development directed towards a national pool of skilled and self-reliant craftsmen, technicians and technologist in technical and vocational educational field. In Nigeria, the training of technical personnel has witnessed many challenges ranging from policies which have no beaming with our problems, curriculum that has little or no relationship with work place and social needs, embezzlement of fund meant for education development purposes, lack of teacher motivation, inadequate facilities, inadequate funding, brain drain, poor staff training, bribery and corruption. This research intend to examine Vocational Technical Education and Entrepreneurship Training and Innovation in Yobe State Technical Colleges, the area of this study consist some selected Technical College secondary School within Yobe State, the population of this study consists of 150 respondent. The findings of this study showed that Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVTE) promote sustainable development for student and youth toward national development in general. The 150 respondents opined that government and its other agency should gave much attention and proper programmes to Technical and Vocational Education Training implementation. This study recommended that Government should organized regular seminars and workshop to keep TVET teachers update on the current development in the field of TVET, there should be massive recruitment of young viable and adequate TVET teachers with new innovations to replace the old retiring teachers. TVET educators should be treated well with good working conditions and should be highly remunerated and motivated, both government and private sectors should collectively provide training facilities in technical vocational institutions/centers for the acquisition of skills in TVET.
